Label Dimensions Made Easy

Measuring and determining Labels- the most common problem that any product manufacturer faces.

You have the product, you have the container, artwork is ready, online label printing available; just need labels now. What’s the big deal? As simple it may look determining the correct label size for your Brand packaging could be the most tedious part.

Here is a quick guide to help you and ease the process.

1. Finding the label spot

Before you start measuring, find the spot on your packaging where the Brand label is to be applied. This will be the flattest part of your container/packaging.

2. Another important consideration is where the label is to be applied

types of bottles

Once these criteria are determined, now you can start with measuring.

Type of container

Every manufacturer will have slight variation is dimensions and sizes of their manufactured containers. 250ml jars from two different manufacturers will have different dimensions.

  • Bottles-

Every bottle has a shoulder, that is the curved area on top leading to the neck. There might also be a curved part at bottom of the bottle.

Now, measure the flattest part of your bottle.

    • Cap, always leave a 1/8” margin from the sides (round label, seal label)
    • For front and back label, you need the height x width.
    • For wraparound label, you need the height x circumference.

measure the bottle

Always keep 1/8” margin in measurement.

  • Jars-

Jars have a similar criterion as bottles, some jars are flat, and others might have a little taper on the top and bottom. Measure the flattest part of your jar.

    • Cap, always leave a 1/8” margin from the sides (round label, seal label)
    • For front and back label, you need the height x width. (square/rectangle label)
    • For wraparound label, you need the height x circumference. (Wraparound label)

  • Special size containers-

If you have a special size, measure the flattest part of your containers. The requirement here would be for any size label custom made for your packaging/container.

Measure and determine the dimensions: height x width (images of the packaging, drawings) and we are there to guide you on same.
